Introducing the new Stop A Scammer — rebuilt from scratch for 2026
After six years running on a community forum, we've rebuilt Stop A Scammer from the ground up — faster, more searchable, and built around a single job: check anything suspicious, fast. Here's what's new and what's coming.
Stop A Scammer started as a WordPress forum in 2019 after a friend lost $20,000 to a fake crypto investment platform. Six years and 48,000+ community reports later, the forum-based site had become hard to search, slow to load, and even harder for first-time victims to navigate in a moment of panic. So we rebuilt it.
The biggest change: everything is now organized around a single job — paste something suspicious, get an instant risk assessment backed by real community reports. The homepage lookup search checks URLs, phone numbers, emails, and crypto wallet addresses against our database and live threat feeds in parallel.
The Learn hub now has 27 scam categories, each with its own detail page covering how the scam works step-by-step, red flags, real victim stories, and do/don't guidance. We built it off the FTC, FBI IC3, and ACCC Scamwatch taxonomies and added our own narrative content from community reports.
Under the hood: the site is now a static Astro build that loads in under 200ms, deploys in 30 seconds, and is fully data-driven. Adding a new scam or a new category is just an edit to a JSON file — no template changes needed. All content is version-controlled and free of trackers.
