About us

Stopping scammers through the power of people.

We're a small team and a huge community fighting back against the most rapidly growing crime on the planet — built on the simple idea that one person's story can save the next person from losing everything.

Our storyIt started with one stolen $20,000.

Stop A Scammer began in 2019 after a friend of our founder lost his savings to a fake crypto trading platform. He'd done his "research" — the site looked professional, had reviews, even a phone support line — but every breadcrumb of warning was buried in scattered forum posts that nobody could find in time.

We built Stop A Scammer to fix that gap: one place where you can paste anything suspicious and instantly see if real people have been hurt by it. No paywalls, no dark patterns, no data harvesting.

Six years later we're powered by tens of thousands of brave people who've shared their stories so the next person doesn't have to learn the hard way.

I wish I'd found this site two weeks earlier. I'd searched the platform name and found nothing — now there are 14 reports about it. I submitted mine so the next person finds it before I did. Anonymous, 42 · pig butchering victim, March 2026

What we believeThe principles that guide every decision.

Free, forever

Lookups, reports, and educational guides will always be free. The community pays for itself by protecting itself.

Privacy first

Reports are anonymous by default. We never sell data, never run third-party ad trackers, and strip metadata from uploads.

Open data

Our taxonomy and aggregate stats are public. We contribute back to the open security community through PhishTank and abuse.ch.

Verified, not viral

Every report is moderated. We'd rather publish 10 verified scams than 1,000 noisy ones.

Victim-centered

Scams are crimes, not failures of intelligence. We write everything to be useful for real people in distress.

Built for speed

If a lookup takes longer than 250ms or a report takes longer than two minutes, we've failed. Speed is a feature.

MilestonesHow we got here.

2019

The beginning

Founded after a personal loss to a crypto investment scam. Started as a WordPress site with a forum.

2021

10,000 reports

Crossed the first major milestone. Added structured categorization and the first version of the lookup search.

2023

API + ingestion pipeline

Began ingesting trusted public feeds (PhishTank, URLhaus, Cryptoscamdb) to give every lookup richer context.

2025

Browser extension

Launched for Chrome and Firefox — protecting users in real time as they browse.

2026

Full redesign

Rebuilt the site from scratch around speed, accessibility, and a unified search-first experience. You're looking at it.
