Common Scams

There are many scams out there and many variations of the same scams. Here are some of the newer and more recent scams that we have come across that have been circulating and claiming $100’s of millions of dollars from victims worldwide in 2021 alone!

Blackmail

One of the oldest and common scams whereby people are blackmailed into sending money to a scammer or face dire consequences.

Copy & Paste Malware

One of the oldest and common scams whereby people are blackmailed into sending money to a scammer or face dire consequences.

Fake Exchanges

People are invited to trade cryptocurrency, binary options, etc. on crypto exchange only to find out later that it is not real and their investment and profits are gone.

Ransomware

A piece of software is installed on someones computer. Typically they encrypt the users important files and demand a ransom if they want to get their files back.

Fake Giveaways

People are notified that they have won an exotic or some sort of vacation, iPhone or some trendy item of the day, a hotel stay, a new car such as a Tesla, etc.

Phishing Emails

Commonly used to get someones credit card, identity and more recently access to cryptocurrency and cryptocurrency wallets

Social Media

Attacks executed through platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter. The purpose of such an attack is to steal personal data or gain control of someones social media account.

Ponzi & Pyramid Schemes

Existing investors are paid with funds from new investors. Little or no risk is one of the common promises. Once new investors stop coming in, the money dries up.
